To overlook…

quran2

We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, but for just ends. And the Hour is surely coming (when this will be manifest). So overlook (any human faults) with gracious forgiveness. (15:85)

Let not those among you who are endued with grace and amplitude of means resolve by oath against helping their kinsmen, those in want, and those who have left their homes in God’s cause: let them forgive and overlook, do you not wish that God should forgive you? For God is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (24:22)

Those are people whose best deeds will be accepted and whose wrong deeds will be overlooked. They are among the Companions of the Garden, in fulfilment of the true promise made to them. (46:16)

Quite a number of the People of the Book wish they could Turn you (people) back to infidelity after ye have believed, from selfish envy, after the Truth hath become Manifest unto them: But forgive and overlook, Till Allah accomplish His purpose; for Allah Hath power over all things. (2:109)

Hasten towards forgiveness from your Lord and a garden broader than Heaven and Earth which has been prepared for those who do their duty, who spend [for others] throughout happiness and hardships and suppress their anger and overlook what other people do. God loves the kindly, (3: 133-134)

He it is, Who (hears and) accepts His servants´ repentance. He overlooks and excuses (many of) your misdeeds; but He does know everything you do. (42:25)

O you who believe, do not ask about matters which, if revealed to you prematurely, would hurt you. If you ask about them in light of the Quran, they will become obvious to you. GOD has deliberately overlooked them. GOD is Forgiver, Clement. (5:101)

(O believers, if you are worried that God will take every soul to account even for what the soul keeps within it of intentions and plans, know that) God burdens no soul except within its capacity: in its favor is whatever (good) it earns, and against it whatever (evil) it merits. (So, pray thus to your Lord:) “Our Lord, take us not to task if we forget or make mistake. Our Lord, lay not on us a burden such as You laid on those gone before us. Our Lord, impose not on us what we do not have the power to bear. And overlook our faults, and forgive us, and have mercy upon us. You are our Guardian and Owner (to Whom We entrust our affairs and on Whom we rely) so help us and grant us victory against the disbelieving people!” (2:286)

So, with mercy from Allah, you dealt gently with them. And had you been strict, harsh-hearted, surely they would have moved away from your precincts; so overlook them (their faults) and invoke forgiveness for them and consult them in the affair. Then when you have taken a stand (on the matter), then put (your) trust in Allah. Certainly Allah loves those who put (their) trust (in Him). (3:159)

No matter where you may set out from, turn your face towards the Hallowed Mosque. It means the Truth from your Lord; nor will God overlook whatever you are doing. (2:149)

…but He will overlook the bad deeds of those who have faith, do good deeds, and believe in what has been sent down to Muhammad––the truth from their Lord––and He will put them into a good state. (47:2)

And if you have to overlook them [for now], seeking the mercy of your Lord which you expect [in the future], speak to them gentle words. (17:28)

O believers, if you follow the path shown by God, He will give you a standard (of right and wrong), and overlook your sins, and forgive you. God is abounding in benevolence. (8:29)

And do not let those of you who possess grace and (financial) capability (to help), swear not to give to relatives and to the poor and the migrants in the way of Allah, and let them pardon and overlook. Do you not like that Allah should (also) protectively forgive you? And Allah is Protectively Forgiving, Merciful. (24:23)

We will overlook their evil deeds, and reward them with the finest of whatever they have been doing. (29:7)

(Oh prophet), tell those who believe, “The unbelievers do not expect the ´days of Allah´ _(the Day of Resurrection and all days after that). Overlook them, so He may compensate people in accordance with the deeds they earn!” (45:14)

whenever there is a way out…

The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “Wherever possible, do not inflict punishments (hudud; singular hadd) on Muslims; if there is a way out for someone, let him go. It is better for the ruler (al-imam) to err in forgiveness than for him to err in punishment.” (Sunan of Tirmidhi]

Adiyat al-Tawaf’s Forgiveness Prayer

O God, truly You have said in your Word,
“Call onto Me and I will answer you.’

We have called onto You, O Lord.
So forgive us in accordance with Your command.

For You do not break your promises.

Our Lord, truly we have heard the caller calling us to faith:
‘Believe in your Lord.’
And, ‘O Lord, we have believed.
Then forgive us our trespasses and rid us of our iniquities.
Let us be called hence with the righteous.

O Lord, in You have we trusted,
to You we have returned.
Yours is the ordering.

Forgive us, O Lord,
and our brethren who have preceded us in the faith.

Let there be no ill will towards those who have believed.
For You are kindly and merciful.
O Lord, Make our light complete and forgive us.

You art powerful over all things.
I take refuge with You.

Hadith Qudsi 35

Our Lord (glorified and exalted be Hu)
descends each night to the earth’s sky
when there remains the final third of the night, and Hu says:
“Who is saying a prayer to Me that I may answer it?
Who is asking something of Me that I may give it her?
Who is asking forgiveness of Me that I may forgive him?”
